Food was absolutely amazing! Definitely true German food taste. The root beer was also really great. Had the right amount of vanilla taste. Staff was friendly, engaging, and attentive. A must eat in San Antonio.

YUM! Loved this place. Ambience was awesome and customer service was excellent. I got the nitro cold brew coffee...it was great...had a nice hint of cinnamon. Also had two breakfast tacos, bacon egg and cheese and chorizo egg and cheese. Excellent and the flour tortillas tasted homemade in-house. Highly recommend the cinnamon roll as well...has a nice cream cheese icing!

This place is so historic. It's the oldest restaurant in San Antonio. I enjoyed the old rustic atmosphere and the staff is so friendly. I will definitely be back to sample more of the menu. The Rubin was great, especially the signature mustard. A must visit place for lunch in San Antonio..

Great sandwich place. The waiter we had wasn't exactly on the ball, and he seemed to like to talk.... Alot. We don't mind a friendly and social waiter, as long as things aren't missed in our order, and that we have to remind him of them. Other than that, there's a reason why this restaurant has been around for a long while. Their sandwiches are pretty awesome. Expect a decent wait time, so don't rush.

Whenever I visit San Antonio I make sure to dine here. The reuben sandwich with split-pea soup combination is my regular but I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered here. The homemade root beer served in a frosted mug (with one free refill) is amazing. It's also a very cozy bright atmosphere. The only minor complaint is service can lack a little when it's crowded but never enough to sour the experience.

What a great place. In San Antonio on business and needed a good breakfast. Well they had it. Eggs, coffee and their famous bratwurst. Service was super and food was great. Perfection

What a fantastic place! We were down for the Holiday Parade and ate breakfast the next morning at Schilo's. It's the oldest restaurant in San Antonio and when you enter you can feel the history. We were seated promptly and had the best server. We both ordered Mama Schilo's breakfast with Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's. The food arrived hot and super fast. The biscuits were light, fluffy and practically melted in your mouth. The homemade gravy had large pieces of sausage and everything was cooked to perfection. Everything was reasonably priced and the staff was everywhere making sure you were taken care of during your meal. We loved it, will return again and recommend it to everyone we talk to, thank you for a great experience.

My family and I ordered a few items and we all tried the different plates. They were all very good couldn't have gone wrong worth any of them. The staff were also awesome in suggesting a few options to try.

It was wonderful and tasty. My husband had the biscuits and gravy with bacon and sausage and also had the Irish spiked root beer. He enjoyed it so much, and the drink was just the perfect amount of alcohol.I had the chicken salad croissant sandwich and I added avocado and it was so good and moist and all the flavors were perfect, I also had a mimosa, it was so refreshing!Cant wait to visit SA and go back!!

Great breakfast of 1 egg, 2 pieces of bacon with a side of biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were simply awesome!

Really cute little German diner. Stopped in for breakfast and it was delicious. They also make a pretty good bloody mary.

I loved breakfast here. The building is just beautiful & has great details like the ceiling tins & tiled floors. A server showed us the banquet/meeting rooms you can reserve which are lined with old animal heads. One room is shared with Casa Rio. Made me feel like I was in Germany for a bit with so many little details. Pancakes were sweet & fluffy. The bacon breakfast taco was really good & a great deal at only $2. The cinnamon roll is to die for. It wasn't super sugary & sweet like cinnamon rolls can be - just perfect. Hashbrowns were forgettable though.

This was on my bucket list for a short trip to San Antonio. Lunch at this famous deli was delicious. We ate at the bar and I ordered a Reuben, the best since my first one at the M-Street Deli in Washington, DC way back when.... Along with potato salad, it was everything I hoped it would be. The home-made root beer was so sweet I couldn't finish it but I might have enjoyed it as a root beer float. Perhaps another time....

My husband and I recently stopped in for breakfast on our last morning in San Antonio. Wow, the breakfast was great! My favorite part was the biscuit. I was asking our waitress if they make a mix that I could bring back home with me. Sadly, they don't. But if they did, they might strike gold! Just imagine the flavor of a fresh buttermilk biscuit but the texture and consistency of fluffy baked bread! Service was very friendly too. I wish we had discovered it earlier in our trip. We would have tried the dinners too!

After spending days dealing with the hustle and bustle of the restaurants right on the water, we stumbled across Schilo's. We stopped in for breakfast on our last morning in San Antonio and immediately recognized that this place was legit. Breakfast was delicious and the service was top notch. As many of you travelers know, San Antonio is a somewhat expensive place to spend time, especially in the Riverwalk area. I'm glad we found Schilo's, the food is reasonably priced and really good. Will definitely come back here on the next trip to San Antonio.

I'm from the Austin area and decided to take a day trip with my wife to the Riverwalk. The hostess at our hotel recommended Schilo's to us and we figured "why not"? The food was amazing. Simply put. There's not much more to say about it. I could go on and on about how good it was but why it was just great I would recommend others go here give it a try. On another note I'm and one who loves to get a grey cup of coffee. x I'll go places and if I have to get coffee it's not great I'll add creamer add sweetener, but not here. just a simple black coffee was amazing I did met several glasses of it and didn't have to add to it. My wife had one of their chai teas and was amazed by it as well. All the for a very reasonable price.

Fantastic food and absolutely amazing root beer. The staff is always very friendly and polite. Be it busy or slow they're always doing their best. Definitely worth going to and visiting at least once and more than likely probably a lot more.

Had a wonderful lunch here. They have 2 front doors, one with 2 steps up and the other a level, accessible entrance. Our host Hector welcomes us (with me on mobility scooter) into the accessible door and seated us with warm hospitality. Best potato pancakes I’ve ever tasted anywhere and of course the root beer was divine. Hector was a gracious and charming host, which made our meal particularly special. And kudos to this restaurant for having an accessible entrance into their historic building.

I went in to Schilo's for a quick breakfast on a Monday. I had the Papa Fritz Breakfast, and while it was simply seasoned with salt, it was very delicious! The hash was expertly prepared and crispy, bacon too, eggs were tender and flavorful(they'll prepare any style you like), and biscuit was piping hot and moist(I only added a pat of butter).I popped in and out super quick. I want to say I was in there for less than 25 minutes and the whole time I had a full cup of coffee thanks to the refills from the server at the bar.If their breakfast is like anything else on their menu you can't go wrong!

Very VERY yummy. This place had an awesome atmosphere and the food was very good. The service was fast and very good! Overall a very fun and cool place to eat and hangout!! Definitely worth the time🙂

Wow, no wonder this place has been around 100 years! The food and atmosphere is great. Get there for an early lunch or dinner to beat the lines. I highly recommend the pretzel starter with the beer cheese and a cold root beer. The pretzels are big, buttery, and just the right amount of salt. The root beer is homemade, cold, and smooth.

Although not busy, our waiter was not very attentive. I had the sweinerschnitzel and it was very tough. Fries were good and the root beer also good. The root beer was not overly rich, which is good. Granddaughter has biscuits and gravy, she loved it. Wife and daughter had Reubens and both enjoyed them

This is the oldest restaurant in San Antonio (so they say). It has simple food with a German accent. Food is just OK and service is good. Prices are mid range.

Excellent food. Excellent service. There's a reason it's been open over a hundred years. You can taste the history!

Dude, if you get the same waiter I had, you will have an amazing time. Only good brunch spot in downtown San Antonio for a classic bacon, eggs, and pancake feast. Their beer selection is good, including root beer they make in house. The decor is sehr deutsch! (Very German)
Bailee Thompson
Schilo’s is a gem in the middle of San Antonio with a great atmosphere and friendly staff. If you plan on going, you need to grab one of their homemade root beers and soft pretzel with a tiny bit of their homemade mustard on top. DELICIOUS! You’ll never regret it!And on the plus side! You can buy some of their homemade mustard!

I can't believe all these years I've been here and never come here! Loved the food! Nice place off the Riverwalk downtown! The cheesecake was awesome! I definitely want to go back and try the variety of German food! Must visit!
Becca Ortiz
I had a fun time there, Their desserts are to die for yummy. Especially the cheesecake so fresh and homemade. i loved it. They were kind and generous to me and my fiance, I will be definitely, going back

Historical restaurantMy husband and I shared soup and Wiener schnitzel for dinner with a refreshing root beer after a day of travelling. We loved the restaurant interior and the trophy room was fabulous. The food was pretty good and the service (from Elizabeth) was excellent.

I'm a fan! I loved my sandwich and their signature mustard! I also had the split pea soup and of course I washed it down with a famous root beer (but I tried it with a rootbeer cocktail: the whiskey paralyzer).

We went for Sunday Morning Breakfast and it was excellent. Good service, good food and a good price. You got a lot for your dollar there and the coffee was very good too. I will definitely go back and the staff is good with Sharing the history of this gem in the area.

We were in town for a conference and finally had the opportunity to leave the hotel for lunch. We walked around and happened upon Schilo's. It looked cute so we decided to give it a try. Our server, David, was amazing. He was so friendly and helpful. Our reubens and beer were a perfect. We will definitely be back when we are in San Antonio.

I was in town for a conference and this was our last lunch stop before heading back home. The restaurant was very authentic, and I loved the decorations. The food was very tasty as well! I even took home a jar of their spicy mustard.

We loved this place. We were visiting and found this place for breakfast. Super good food, great prices, and a wonderful staff! They serve breakfast all day btw! Definitely a great place!

This is one of the best restaurants... in the world! If I could give this place more stars, I would 💯â! The food is absolutely amazing. Good luck trying to find a better pretzel with bier cheese and spicy mustard other than here! I could drink the mustard they make, it's that good. Another plus is the restaurant is the oldest in San Antonio and the historic richness is proudly displayed. The staff is wonderful and so attentive and I can't praise the team they've assembled. I'm going back for another pretzel right now!

Great spot to eat. Best bloody Mary I have ever had, tasty Root beer float. Every bit of our dinner was delicious

I ate here twice during my visit to San Antonio. Obviously I loved the food. The root beer is awesome. But I have to say the service and servers were the best. I had seen a review or two that talked about poor service. I did not experience it. Our servers were amazing. On both times I came in. One in the evening and another at lunch, the servers were prompt and attentive. We brought 2 small children with us and the servers were helpful and got us child's cups etc. All I can say is this is a great place to eat. It's easy to find, close to everything you want to see in San Antonio. Check them out.

The breakfast food was yummy the French toast was delicious and their sandwiches are awesome as well. The homemade root beer is amazing as well! We got breakfast, lunch to go plus an appetizer for two and drinks and paid only $50. It's super reasonably priced especially for the quality of the food and the super cute atmosphere! Right near the river walk too!

Enjoyable deli in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Great atmosphere and visuals in a historic building. The food and service, however, was severely lacking. Ordered a Rueben and it was well made, but there was no Russian dressing on a sandwich that was made famous in century old American delicatessens of this ilk. Chicken schnitzel was dry and very small for a restaurant claiming to have a German theme. Service was slow and it was not a rush by any means. Schilo’s delicious house-made hot mustard brings a lot of life to your otherwise bland meal and your sinuses as well!
Kristina Reid
I highly recommend Schilo's. We went for supper last night. We both had the Irish bulldog spiked root beer. It was excellent. The spicy mustard is a great addition to their cheeseburger. The food and service was great. We went back for breakfast this morning. It was excellent again. The biscuits are fantastic!!! This is a must stop anytime we visit San Antonio!
Wendy May
Love Schilo's! The prices are great for downtown and the people that work here are nice. They make a great bloody mary.

Great local beer, and the meatloaf hits the spot! The customer service was great and welcoming and the ambiance puts you at home. Make sure to get some sausage and try it with the Schilo’s hot mustard! Delicious! Definitely a great stop when you’re here in San Antonio!

We make a stop at Schilo's every time we come to Saa Antonio. Hector was our waiter & he was still in training, but he did an excellent job. We love the root beer & started with a pitcher! You get an ice cold mug & ice forms in your glass as you drink. Our son had breakfast for lunch & loved it. The sausage was like bratwurst! He also thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake afterward. My spouse and I both enjoyed the tomato soup, so yummy!

Very good food. Service was fast and super nice. There is a bar area in the back of the restaurant, they serve German style beers to include wheat verity. We went there for breakfast and it was outstanding. Eggs and all other pan fried food (sausage, eggs, etc) was prepared just right, without any excess oil. Biscuits were still warm and just outstanding. Surprisingly the prices are good too, better than other comparable places. ☕ Coffee was very good too (strong!), Upon exiting we were asked if we want to take coffee or water to go, very nice.I can recommend this place to all visiting the area.

My husband ordered the 2 pretzels with beer cheese sauce which they were out of and there was a decent amount of time before informed of this. His replacement meal was bratwurst, kielbasa and jalepeno sausage with cheese. Don't use processed cheese slices to go with the sausage. If you don't have a good cheese place there are cheese factories in wisconsin that can get you the cheeses that are going to make this meal better. I had the chicken dumpling meal. The red cabbage salad was delicious. The fresh fruit was delicious too. The chicken dumplings was a let down. The building outside and inside is a walk back in time which by far made up for the food and the staff was very friendly.

Price for a downtown tourist restaurant is not bad at all. The food is great! The service is friendly and ambiance is retro.
Jonathan Moran
Stopped by Shilo's for their lunch but came a little too soon and ended up with breakfast. Delicious pancakes, eggs and sausage, not to mention the all day 6$ Bloody Mary on their cocktail menu. Absolutely will be back again!

Great place for breakfast. Good choices of sandwiches and breakfast platters. The home made mustard was great as well. I didn't care much for the cheesecake though as it was a bit too dry.
